Nilam is kind of herb or shrublet belongs famili Labiatae or Lamiaceae which produce atsiri oil. Nilam grows well at low land until high land (10-1200 m) above sea level. Nilam is light demanding plant, for optimal growth it needs adequate sun rays. However, this species stil grows well on the area with limited sun rays. Therefore, nilam could be inter planted as ground layer together with other tree stands (agroforestry system) within and/or outside forest area. Planting of nilam tree in the forest area commonly together with community empowerment program for the people living surrounding forest area. Whereas at private owned forest, nilam is planted together with food and vegetable crops. Application of nilam agroforestry system within or outside forest area commonly is not agribusiness managed but stil under household scale (traditionally). This situation is mainly caused by low level of technology, poor institutional level and limited availability of capital of the farms. A study of forest resourches management together with local community at RPHTanjungkerta, BKPH Tampomas, KPH Sumedang by nilam cultivation under Pine tree stands was done in 2006. The purpose of the studyh is to know farrmer income from nilam agribussines that established under pine tree stands through community based forest management/CBFM. Farmer cultivates Aceh nilam (Pogostemon cablin Benth) with population 15.000 trees/ha. Average product of wet nilam which produced from first harvest (6 months) is 5 – 10 ton/ha and sold with the price Rp 600,-kg. Hence gross income of the farmer is Rp 3.000.000,- - Rp 6.000.000,-/ha. After nilam is one year old, average production of wet nilam is 20 ton/ha with gross income Rp 12.000.000,-. Marketing of dry nilam is through intermediary treder and then brought to atsiri oil destilation company. Result of this is expected could be used as input for developing CBFM policy through development of agribusiness nilam in agroforestry system
